I know I did a recent post showing my seeds and seedlings. Just thought I'd catch you all up. :)
I planted some MORE and this time, I had to get creative! I have so many seeds that I've been planting that I ran out of planters. So, I had to use things around the house. I used a bunch of reusable (foil) baking tins for a bunch of seeds. (I always keep some reusable tins in my cupboard incase I'm making a meal for a family who has just had a baby, just had surgery, etc.)
They worked great. They don't drain at the bottom (holes) so the soil stays nice and moist. I do have to watch the soil however because there's not a lot of soil in the 'planters' and because the plants/seeds are all by the windowsill, they dry out easily. I actually had to move our ironing board next to the windowsill to accomodate all the seeds I planted. It's only temporary though. Most of the lettuce and tomatoes need to be replanted outside now. They're big enough to withstand the power of the rain. It's amazing because some people complain that they just don't have a green thumb. Well, seeds (just like babies) need TLC or you're right, you're not going to get anything out of them. It's neat to see how my plants that I took the time to nurture and care for inside this winter are actually growing better than the ones outdoors. (I didn't plant all the seeds inside this year. There wasn't enough room.) Anyway, our butterfly house is now the chicken coop, so although I reguarly plant my seeds in the butterfly house (to keep squirrels and birds from eating them), I had to get creative this year. :)

It just goes to show that if you really want to start some basic gardening, pick up some seeds next time you're at Home Depot/Lowe's (you don't have to order them special like I do) and plant them in a jar, pie plate, baking tin, etc. Get creative! It's fun. You'll be excited to watch your seeds grow and you'll love picking the produce of your hard-earned labor. What are you waiting for? Get up and go get your seeds!! Winter will be ending soon and you'll need to have them planted!!!

Look at you!!! I am doing plants for my tomatoes and I need to see when I'm supposed to plant those. There is a man here that has a HUGE garden and he's always giving me advice. He said I need a tiller (sp?) and that scares me.
