Letter "P" Lesson Plans for Preschool

This week, we're focusing on the letter "P". Here are some ideas if you've been following along in our homeschooling and want to apply some things yourself...

*NOTE*: If your child is already in a preschool program, ask your child's teacher in advance what the class will be learning about next week and this way, you can plan out some lessons of your own to coordinate with what they're learning at school. Their teacher will LOVE you for this (coming from a teacher herself and speaking from experience)!

1. Use your "Letter of the Week" box and go on a "P" hunt, finding words that start with "P"

2. If you have older preschoolers, you can spell out the "Letter of the Week" box items on some notebook paper where they can see it. I LOVE chart paper.

3. Don't forget to cut out "P" pictures of things with that sound to add to your "Alphabet Book".

4. Practice writing upper and lowercase letter "Pp"s in workbook.

5. ACTIVITES: make a book about pairs of things (ie: socks, mittens, etc.) using pictures and words, talk about patterns, collect pebbles and categorize them from smallest to largest and use them to count by two's, five's, etc. Have a pet show with some friends, create a chart on how to take care of you pet, learn and diagram the parts of a plant (make sure you're doing this hands-on/kinesthetically!), make homemade playdough, talk about poems, popcorn, grow a potato in a jar and then plant it once it begins to grow roots, potato printing, make pumpkin bread, plant pumpkin seeds, make the color purple by mixing primary colors, learn about primary colors, make puppets and have a puppet show, start writing a pen pal, have a party, make pancakes, talk about parents, boil peanuts, and the list goes on...

6. BOOKS:
Sylvester and the Magic Pebbles by William Steig
Pet Show by Ezra Jack Keats
The Popcorn Book by Tomie de Paola

7. "Pp" FOODS to eat this week: peanuts, pancakes, pizza, potatoes, peas, peanut butter, pears, peppers, pickles, pie, popsicles, pretzels, prunes and pumpkin

Have fun and happy learning!!!

*Feel free to share any ideas you have as I love learning new things. =)

Here's what I learned too as I started doing mine...when you are on the edit posts page and after you've created some labels you can click the box next to the posts and then go the drop down and it will apply a label to all the checked posts at once. Sweet!
