My Week Without My Microwave

Say goodbye to 'Betsy'!

I promised a post on how my week went without my microwave and so here it goes...
First, I was so excited that Janet Harriet, the author of the article I used in my microwave post, gave me a comment! Cool beans. Well, Janet, I'm happy to say that my 'microwave-less' week was great. :) One piece of advice that I would give would be that those wishing to toss their microwave, make sure you have two sets of pots/pans. I did find that I was using a set a day between heating up babyfood and making three meals a day. Something that did make it easier though would have to be the fact that I just rinsed out a pot or pan that didn't need much cleaning and left it for the next meal. For instance, I didn't use a pot or pan for breakfast when we ate oatmeal (a Bates household favorite). I used our kettle. For lunch, I often steam a frozen or fresh vegetable (peas, corn, carrots, etc.) and since I was just steaming something, I rinsed it out and set it back on the stove to use for dinner. I do that with our food processor when I'm making babyfood. If I use it in the morning to make babyfood, I just rinse it out really quick to make it ready for lunch and then do the same for dinner. I wash it in the dishwasher at the end of the day, or if I have time, I'll just hand-wash it.

Now, I'm trying to figure out what to do with it. It's in our garage and I'm wondering if I should donate it or just take it to a place that you're supposed to take old appliances. I've heard that it's not a good idea to just dump them in your garbage can. I've also heard people talk about donating them to their youth group or some other organization, but then you have to ask yourself if you're contradicting yourself by giving something that you don't think is healthy to someone else to use. What to do. Oh, what to do.

Anyway, thanks for the comment Janet and thanks for writing your article. If you didn't get to check out Janet's article, it's your lucky day. I'll post the link again HERE.

I also saw that Candy over at Keeping the Home pitched hers as well. :) Any other stories?

Hope you all are having a great weekend and enjoyed the Lord's day. I know we did. God was present in our worship this morning through our singing, tithing, learning and through our fellowship with one another as a church family. What a blessing it is to have such an incredible church family.
