Down One Chick =(

I regret to say that we lost a chick last night. (tear) Rob made a very sturdy chicken coup. Never-the-less, Riley somehow chewed through the ckicken wire and got ahold of one!! Lincoln was the one who came in and told me what was happening. Poor thing. There wasn't a mark on her. I think she just had a heart attack and passed away. We've been SO careful to keep Riley away from the chicks, but I guess she just wanted them THAT bad. We've felt the 'calling' to replace the chick so the lady that sells them to us (she's the sweetest, Christian lady not to far from here) said she'd have more chicks on the 22nd. So, we may be paying her a visit for another chick. We shall see. The chicks we got this time around are bigger and have started getting their feathers in. The chicks that our friend Sandy will be getting in will be just hatched and will need to stay in the house until they get their full feathers in. That is, if it's still as COLD as it's been. Termperatures in the 50s are fridgid here in sunny Florida. I forgot to cover my tomato plants last night...oops! I hope they do okay.

Dad reminded me last night that I need to start my spring seeds soon. It gets so hot here in Florida quickly after winter and if your seeds aren't started in January, the lettuce will bolt and things will go to seed much quicker. They also just don't taste as well. I need to order my lettuce today. Check out Burpee.com if you're interested in gardening. They have great seeds and I've always had luck with them sprouting and growing. Never a problem.

Weekend To Do: Double-up on chicken wire around coup!!!

Oh NO! You are really doing well with your garden. I need you to send me a bit of your energy up here to Ohio. I think I'm going to try tomatoes this year and make salsa!
