"W" is for Weather

This week was letter "W" and we studied different forms of weather. We talked about the following forms of weather: rainy, windy, cloudy, tornadoes, dew, fog, rainbows and sunny weather. We listened to a thunderstorm (thanks to You Tube) as we painted a thunderstorm scene on cardboard. We sang a weather song and looked outside to see what kind of weather we had today. We also talked about wind and how we can't see it, but we can see its effects. We watched a 2-liter tornado spin around and made a rainbow pizza. We were going to attempt an actual arch shape with our fruits, but it wound up being randomly crated. =) It was definately yummy!
Here's the recipe:
Ingridients:
- 1 8-oz. cream cheese
- 1 stick of butter
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- a few tablespoons of milk (depends on how thick you want your icing)
- fruits that cover the colors of the rainbow... we used cherries (red), apricots (orange), bananas (yellow), kiwi (green), blueberries (blue), grapes (purple)
- 2 packages of premade sugar cookie mix (you'll also want to use some flour when rolling it out)
You'll Need:
- a pizza pan
- a roller
- mixing bowl
- beaters
Directions:
1. Open up your sugar cookie dough (I buy the already made kind...Pillsbury) and roll it out to the size of your pizza pan using flour so it doesn't stick.
2. Place your cookie dough onto your pan and bake at 350 degrees for about 10 minutes or until it's done.
3. As the dough is cooking, you'll want to prepare your frosting. Mix the cream cheese, softened butter, powered sugar and milk in a mixing bowl.
4. You'll also want to prepare your fruit by peeling and cutting it up. We used different colored bowls (thanks to IKEA!) to place the coordinated colored fruits into and then the kids "had at it" by placing the fruits on the pizza.
5. Let the pizza cool before icing. Then ice and place fruit on it as you like. Enjoy!
*This recipe serves well up to 8 people!

Kelli that pizza looks yummy. Thanks for sharing the recipe. You still amaze me in how creative you are with your teaching. I know your kids are going to be well-educated. Keep up the good work.
